Our First Sail on Seas the Day
Let videos load before starting to play them.
At long last, after waiting several weeks, we started our sailing class on Friday, September 5, 2008. The weather was beautiful today as we sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. We left at noon and arrived at our anchorage in Biscayne Bay at around 7 pm. We first spent some time near Miami practicing tacking and it took awhile to get the anchor to hold once we reached the Bay.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for sailing with strong winds and very little waves.
We’ll stay here tonight, practice in the bay tomorrow and leave Sunday morning. Why? Hurricane Ike is on a path to hit the Florida Keys on Tuesday or Wednesday. We’ll get back Sunday in the late afternoon, and get Seas the Day tied down in her slip at Las Olas. We probably can’t stay on her, so Monday morning we’ll pick up Daisy at Camp Canine and perhaps head out of town.
In the meantime, we’re having a great time and learning a lot.
