Daisy’s First Sail
(Let the entire movie load before starting to play it.)
On October 5, 2008, Daisy finally got to come with us for a sail. Until now, she spent the days at Camp Canine (Doggie Daycare) while we sailed. After living aboard Seas the Day for a month, it was time for First Mate Daisy to assume her duties. This movie was taken after we had motorsailed for about 20 minutes, during which time she freely maneuvered around the deck seeming to have a great time and perfectly comfortable with the movement of the boat. With our quiet electric engines I doubt that she realized she was in a vehicle, although she obviously noticed we were moving. As she hates riding in cars and starts to shake and drool as soon as she steps into one, we wondered if she would react the same way when the “house” she had lived in for four weeks began to move. The water is fairly calm until we reach the commercial channel where the cruise ships and tankers travel. We were just about to raise the mainsail and head into the channel as I recorded this short movie. As you can see, Daisy seems at ease at this point. Read the entry below, however, to see how the day progressed.
