Today was a busy, but very fun day. First, the Pet Parade. This is the official opening of the Georgetown Regatta. Mark spent most of yesterday and all morning working on Daisy’s costume. Since the theme of the regatta is “Under the Deep Blue Sea, Las Vegas Style,” we decided to have Daisy portray a Las Vegas type dancer, Carmen Miranda. We found her signature song, “Boom Chica Boom Boom” on iTunes and downloaded it. Of course, she had to have a turban decorated with fruit. Not having any fruit, JoAnne kindly painted some sea urchin shells to look like fruit and then Mark wrapped my purple “Turbie Twist” towel with beads. Rather than glue everything on, Mark sewed on the decorations. He cut down a milk carton, placed the turban on top of it, and tied it around Daisy’s neck. Daisy patiently sat on our aft deck while Mark fit the turban on her.
JoAnne also let Daisy wear a pink stretchy top of hers, which fit Daisy perfectly. Beads around her neck and a few flowers around her tail completed the ensemble. At the left, Daisy is kissing Margaret, from the trawler Margaret Lee, whom we met back in Bimini. Margaret was passing out baggies of treats to all the dogs after they finished on the stage. Below that, Daisy and Mark wait their turn to walk across the stage.
Mark wrote a bio text which was read while Daisy pranced on the stage and the “Boom Chica Boom Boom” music was played in the background. There were twelve dogs in the Pet parade, most in very cute costumes.

After the Pet Parade, we stayed to watch the “No Talent Talent Show.” It was a very entertaining evening, beginning with a large chorus singing the song, “One Voice.” There were skits, musical acts (mostly lip syncing), dancers, and much more. The finale was four Canadian women dressed like ABBA, lip syncing several of their songs while they performed a nicely choreographed dance routine. At the right is a photo of two women who acted in a hilarious skit about two South Carolina women who thought their husbands were bringing them to Georgetown, South Carolina. The backdrop was painted on a huge sail by one of the cruisers, a former art teacher.
Finally, all the acts were finished, awards given, and the beach dance began. Above Mark and I danced to something from the 60’s. (Photo above) That seems to be the popular time period for the songs Rockin Ron, the Georgetown DJ plays. Ron and his wife Karen from Sea Dancer spun their songs for hours.
The weather was beautiful today, but a front (yet another) is coming through tomorrow. Once this passes and the winds subside to something we can sail in, we’ll leave Georgetown and travel north. That should be by Friday.
Tomorrow, we will spend the morning going into town to get cash (no more ATM’s for awhile), buy some groceries (no more big markets for awhile), buy some more minutes for our Bahamas phone, and get fuel for the dinghy and the boat. In the afternoon, we’ll clean the boat, inside and out. We are supposed to get some rain tomorrow night, but it helps to use soap and sea water before it arrives and then the fresh rain washes it even cleaner. As careful as we are to wash Daisy off after her visits to the beach each morning and evening, she still brings sand onto the boat. Mark makes her swim a little ways to get into the dinghy when they leave the beach, and we also wash her off on the sugar scoop steps with a fresh water hose installed there.
