There were several nurse sharks around the dock at the yacht club, mainly because someone was cleaning fish there. Nurse sharks are non aggressive, in fact at Compass Cay Marina people pet them as they congregate around the marina dock.
Staniel Cay has the famous Thunderball Cave where the James Bond movie was filmed. We didn’t snorkel there when we passed through before, and right now the water is pretty chilly. However, it is supposed to be excellent for snorkeling so we might try it.
We are anchored in Big Major’s Spot by Fowl Cay. Fowl Cay has a beautiful private resort on the island. It’s about a 10 minute dinghy ride over to Staniel Cay.
We have decided that rather than go across to Eleuthera, we will continue to go north along the Exumas, visiting other areas we missed. We’ll probably go as far north as we can in the Exumas and then cross over to Eleuthera. From there we’ll go to the Abacos. Even though you’d think all of the Bahamas would have similar weather, the Abacos are the farthest north and seem to stay colder until well into the Spring. Also, most of the stops in the Abacos are quite close together. When we return to Florida in June, it will probably be from the Abacos.
