At Sampson Marina there was a small store. We assume that the prices here were more than they’ll be at the stores in Staniel Cay and Georgetown since this store was mainly for the megayachts staying at the marina. None of the food had prices on it. We saw one man return Thomas’ English Muffins back to the shelf. I asked him how much they cost and he said $14 for the pack of two. They did have very nice fresh fruit and vegetables, the only thing we really need, but we decided to wait for the store at Staniel Cay.
At the left is a photo of Seas the Day at sunset taken by Joanne from Avalon. Watching the sun set is a nightly delight.
After we returned from the marina, we went snorkeling. Right where we are anchored is a hill of coral. We all got in and swam along it, mainly looking for conch. The best place to find conch is where there is grass on the bottom, and there was a huge “field” of grass. There were so many conch, but some were too small and some were already dead. We did manage to get quite a few however, and tonight we went to Avalon for conch salad prepared by Joanne and Mark. It was incredibly good. The conch is “cooked” by putting it in lime juice. It is cut into small pieces and onion, tomato, green pepper, and garlic salt are the main ingredients.
We are staying here at least another day and will do some more snorkeling and also will go for a walk on shore. It is so quiet and peaceful, the weather is perfect, and there are very few people here. It’s also nice not to have any schedule. We are totally open to where we are going and when we get there and are only planning a day at a time.
