We had another possible window to cross to the Bahamas yesterday and today, but had to skip it. Just as we were preparing to go, we saw a problem with the watermaker. It looks like we are going to need a part - probably covered under warranty but we can’t reach Spectra until Monday. We’ll have to send it to our mail forwarding service and then on to some place in the Bahamas.
Instead of leaving, we had a pleasant Christmas in No Name Harbor. On Christmas Day there was a cruisers’ get-together at a pavilion in the park right off the harbor we’re all anchored in. Photo above (compliments of Joyce on Joy2Sea) shows the group. I’m in the back row with the brown hat and shirt and Mark is trying to get Daisy to look at the camera. This morning, about half of the cruisers were gone - some across to the Bahamas and some south to the Keys. It looks like only a few of us got into the red/green thing. Too many years for me of wearing “teacher Christmas sweaters” to even think about dressing in holiday colors now. Then again, being from Minnesota, it’s hard to remember that it’s Christmas with palm trees and blue skies in the background and dressed in shorts.
Today we went ashore for a long bike ride around Key Biscayne, covering some of the same paths we have taken before and also venturing into the island’s neighborhoods. One particularly nice area was on Harbor Drive, with waterfront homes on Biscayne Bay. As with many neighborhoods on the water, small houses are purchased and torn down with McMansions built on the lots.
When we returned to No Name Harbor, it was filled with boats, the most crowded we’ve ever seen it. The day after Christmas, especially since it’s a weekend, seemed to draw as many local boaters who could fit in here. Also, the Boater’s Grill had a full house for dinner.
