Day 22 Port O’Connor to Rockport Mile 521
Day 22 Port O’Connor to Rockport Mile 521
Thursday, January 8, 2009

Literally every home (see photo) had a dock and a fishing boat. There were also numerous small marinas full of fishing boats. Obviously, since most of the people in Port O’Connor have boats, they all want to go fast through town and don’t mind listening to each other doing it. Tarpan is the fish of choice.
On the way today, we met the “Wharf Cat” which was giving whooping crane tours. Apparently this area is famous for these birds. When we got to the Rockport Marina, there was “Wharf Cat.” This must be her home port.

We walked around Rockport for awhile, then brought Daisy back to the boat and went to dinner at a great seafood restaurant, Latitude 28_02. It was a combination restaurant/art gallery. The featured artist was sculptor Jesus Moroles, the 2008 Medal of Arts Recipient. There was a picture of President Bush presenting him with the medal. Many other artists represented as well making it an interesting place to eat.
Tomorrow we have a short sail to Corpus Christi. By mile markers, it is only 18 miles, but we have to take a short detour to avoid a 48’ bridge so it will probably closer to 25 miles. The temperature is going to be 83. Of course, a cold front is coming through on Saturday, but we’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
It’s hard to believe that our three week trip here is almost over. From what we’ve read, Corpus Christi will have a lot to do to keep us busy.
