Day 15 Galveston to Freeport TX
Day 15 Galveston to Freeport TX
Thursday, January 1, 2009
We got out of the Galveston Harbor fairly early and then followed the Gulf Coast to Freeport, arriving here at 5 pm. We came in a channel past stilt houses and the marina was just on the other side of the bridge, in the photo above. We are staying in a Bridge Harbour Yacht Club in Freeport with all the facilities we could ask for, but probably won’t use them. We pulled forward into the slip and then realized the power cord wouldn’t reach. The cable for TV doesn’t reach either. It was too much trouble to turn around, so we will do without plugging into the power on the dock and just run the generator for awhile. There are washers and dryers here too, but I think we’ll just wait until we’re in Corpus Christi to do laundry. We can fill up our water tanks so we’ll be able to take nice long showers.
Shortly after we pulled into the marina, two couples came over to talk with us. They live right by the marina. We talked for quite awhile and I asked if there was a store nearby where we could walk to get milk. The nearest was about five miles away, and they offered to go pick up some milk and orange juice for us. Incredible! Even more incredible when they came back with the milk and orange juice they wouldn’t take any money. So, we’ve had good samaritans helping us for the last two nights. Andy, at the fuel dock in Galveston let us stay at his dock and wouldn’t take any money and now these kind people drove all the way to the store for our groceries.
There is supposed to be a dense fog here in the morning and as of the forecast now, it won’t clear up until the afternoon. If that is the case, we’ll spend another night here.
Who would have thought I’d be spending my birthday in Freeport, TX.
