Emptying the Storage Room
Emptying the Storage Room

Our month contract on a storage unit was up a few days ago. It only cost us $28 for the month, so was well worth not having to unpack everything at once. However, now we see the bitter truth - so many boxes....so little space. Actually, we have a lot of storage space left in the forward holds, which we hope are waterproof. We just have to organize where everything will go. Unfortunately, it is pretty evident that we overestimated what we needed to bring on Seas the Day. Compared to what we had in a house, what we have now is miniscule, but we still have much more that we will probably use. Part of the “problem” is that we are stocked up for about a year of cruising without buying staples such as toilet paper, tissues, canned goods, toiletries, etc. I guess we forgot that the places we’ll stop will have those items! After all, we aren’t planning a circumnavigation to parts unknown! Also, we have many boxes of books and no bookshelves yet. That’s Mark’s next project, after we purchase a watermaker, dingy, and washer/dryer. All of this needs to be done in the next month, before we leave the luxury of being in a marina.
Last night, we had a delicious meal prepared on our new grill. It was well worth the month long wait to get it installed.
Yesterday, I went to a yoga class at a nearby health club. It reconfirmed my belief that yoga should only be practiced in a real yoga studio. It was really just an exercise class with a few yoga poses included. The last time I went to an exercise class at a health club, I injured my knees doing aerobics, and while I didn’t injure myself yesterday, I am certainly sore as it was a rigorous class. Today, I attempted to go to a yoga studio, but the Mapquest directions apparently didn’t know that the street I turned on did not extend across the New River. I drove around but never found the studio, so I drowned my sorrows in a Starbucks frappuccino and will try again tomorrow.
Two weeks from today, we will move to a different marina, another city facility called New River. (If you go to this link, click on “live beach cam” to see the beach we walk to every day.) New River is close to where we are but all the marinas raise their prices dramatically on October 1. New River is a little less expensive than Las Olas and still has good amenities. The boat show will be at several Ft. Lauderdale Marinas, including Las Olas, and everyone will need to leave here by the middle of October for a few weeks. We will probably be leaving Ft. Lauderdale around the third week of October, as we have to be out of the state by November 6, when our 90 day permit is up. (Read “big tax bill” if we stay longer.)
Last night we enjoyed a grilled steak dinner thanks to Mark’s skilled installation of our Magma grill.
