Stormy Sunday
On our walk this morning, the wind was blowing hard and the waves were crashing. I only got the one photo before my camera battery went dead, so I’ll get more later. This one doesn’t do the waves justice. Unfortunately, now it’s raining and looks like it will continue all day. The boat traffic by our marina is light, even though it is Labor Day weekend. Last Sunday we were rocking all day long from the passing boats’ wakes.
We are learning that most people we deal with in the boating industry assume we are all rich owners of megayachts. The prices we are quoted for services are ridiculous. For example, the area we want converted to an office involves a piece of laminated plywood for a five foot desk area with several drawers below it and two book shelves above. On the other wall, we want four or five narrow book shelves above a unit that is three feet long and already there. We aren’t talking teak - just marine quality plywood that will be laminated. There is nothing fancy or customized here - just some simple cuts. Our first quote was over $9000 and the second over $8000. The second carpenter quoted a price of $1200 for the wood and the rest labor. We had asked to have the wood ordered directly for Lagoon’s suppliers in France and sent over on Seas the Day but that didn’t happen so now we are stuck finding our own wood and matching it to what is already here. Mark built his entire house, so he feels pretty confident building a few drawers and bookshelves. We’ve found a local supplier and will visit them this week.
