Today was a cold, rainy, miserable day. The forecast had said that it would be clear today with a “slight chance of showers” but it changed. Daisy got soaked on her morning walk and didn’t want to do anything but curl up on the seat in the cockpit. She doesn’t like to be inside while we are sailing, for some reason, so I just wrapped her up in a towel.
We had to go through another lock today and a pontoon bridge. That bridge has a cable underwater and pulls across to open. You have to wait for an all clear before you proceed or you might catch the cables. We had to wait about a half hour to get through the lock. We’re anchored in a big “oxbow” which is a wide curved channel. We’re near a refinery and barges will be coming in and out, but they won’t come as far up as we are. That’s the photo of the oil refinery above with several barges next to it.
We are 25 miles from the Texas border so will enter it tomorrow. We have to make a decision. We either stay on the Intracoastal or go out to the Gulf. We are pretty tired of all these barges, bridges, locks, and surprises when we get to anchorages.
